To register in South Dakota you must:

This is the statewide agency that is ultimately responsible for South Dakota elections. You can contact them with questions, but your Local Election Office will probably respond faster.

Your Local Election Office will compare your signature on your voted ballot to the one on your ballot application. If the signatures don't match, your ballot might be rejected. Please sign carefully.
Voting by mail is not as complicated as you might think. There are only a handful of steps:
Any registered South Dakota voter may request a vote by mail ballot.
You must have your request notarized. If you are unable to do this then you may include a COPY of a photo ID, such as a driver's license or non-driver ID that shows your name and South Dakota address.
You do NOT need ID when returning a voted ballot.
