Idaho voter registration rules

To register in Idaho you must:

  • be 18 years old by Election Day
  • be a citizen of the United States
  • have resided in Idaho and in the county for at least 30 days before Election Day
  • not be serving a sentence of imprisonment for a felony. Your voting rights are restored once you have completed your sentence, probation, and parole.

Register to vote online in Idaho

  • You must include your Idaho driver's license number or Idaho state ID number with your online voter registration application.
  • Visit the Idaho online voter registration tool.
  • Fill out all the required fields.
  • You will be registered to vote as soon as you finish the workflow.
  • You should receive your voter registration card in the mail within 2-3 weeks. If not, you might want to follow up with your Local Election Office.
  • The deadline to register to vote online is received by October 9, 2020.

Register to vote by mail in Idaho

  1. Download and fill out the National Voter Registration Form.
  2. Box 6 - ID Number: Enter your Idaho driver license number. If you do not have a driver license, enter the last four digits of your social security number.
  3. Box 7 - Choice of Party: You do not need to register with a party to take part in that party’s primary election, caucus, or convention.
  4. Box 8 - Race or Ethnic Group: Leave blank.
  5. Print, date, and sign the form. If you do not have a printer, you can print the form out at any local library. If you do not have a stamp, you can buy one from any grocery store: just ask the cashier to sell you one.
  6. Mail your voter registration form to the mailing address below. For faster delivery, send the form directly to your Local Election Office.
  7. Your voter registration form must be postmarked by October 9, 2020

Register to vote in person in Idaho

  1. Contact your Local Election Office to find where to register to vote in person.
  2. Idaho voters must provide their Idaho driver's license number, state ID number, or the last four digits of their social security number with their voter registration application. Voters must also physically show a valid document with their name and address, such as their driver's license, bank statement, or utility bill.
