Skip ahead to your state to see if your state offers Election Day Registration or Same Day Registration.
What is Election Day Registration?
Election Day Registration (EDR) allows voters who have missed the registration deadline to register and vote at the same time on Election Day.
What is Same Day Registration?
Same Day Registration (SDR) allows voters who have missed the registration deadline to register and vote at the same time during the early voting period. Almost every state that has Same Day Registration also has Election Day Registration.
How does this work?
The process is simple. You show up in person at a designated place (most often the nearest polling place) with the ID needed to prove your identity and your residency. If you have a driver’s license or state ID card that shows your current address, bring that. If not, you should bring ONE photo ID that shows your name, and ONE document that shows your name and current address. Acceptable documents include a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, residential lease, or any government document that shows your name and current address.
Please contact your Local Election Office if you have any questions about Election Day Registration and Same Day Registration in your jurisdiction.
